Dug and Brian's Adventure Begins

Heather drove Dug and I to the airport yesterday and we were off to a good start. We had the extra legroom seats the whole way there - a middle seat and an aisle seat. We agreed to take turns with the middle seat.

Since Dug is a "UAL Premier" class, he was able to board the aircraft first so he ended up with the middle seat to Chicago. As i got on, i could see he was next to a guy who weighed about 4 bills - oozing out of his seat - taking up every square inch of his space and some of Dug's too! Dug had this smile on his face but we kept our composure.. super nice guy though - said he had been to AK in a minvan a couple years back - poor van...

Next flight was great and we landed in Anchorage around 7 - it seemed like noon. This time of year, it's light pretty much year round. It gets "dusky" around 3 AM, but then at 6 it's light again.

Had dinner at a brewhouse called Glacier Brewhouse. Really good. Prime rib and king crab legs. Mmmmmm. Our waitress had hippies for parents and they live in an underground house heated by a 5-gallon steel barrel and didn't get electricity until she was 7 and never had plumbing while she lived at home. They added plumbing 1 year after she moved out! Paul would have married her on the spot if he were here. She told us where the house is so might try to see it.

Heading into Anchorage.

Brian with our freindly waitress Shantai (sorry, i know it's spelled wrong) pronounced Shan-tay -

Today we pick up the bikes and head north to meet Mark, Paul and Dan. Weather is good. A little chilly, but at least it's not raining (yet).
